Dedicated on the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, this memorial pays tribute to the firefighters of the world, the Ocean City firefighter of the past, present and future as well as the 343 FDNY firefighters lost on 9/11.

Located at the Boardwalk & North Division Street, the 6‘ tall bronze firefighter stands atop a black granite block situated on a 2,500 square foot plaza adorned with engraved paver bricks. Five flags representing the United States, State of Maryland, Worcester County, Town of Ocean City and the Fire Service are flown.

A twisted piece of steel recovered from the World Trade Center was also added as a memorial to the 343 members of FDNY lost on that day. In addition, several black granite blocks have been added in memory of departed members as well as from local businesses honoring firefighters for their service to the community.

The memorial is visited by countless tourists during the vacation season as well as by firefighters and their famililes during the annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention. A 9/11 remembrance event is held annually at the memorial site.
