Broad Brook FD
Read MoreOriginally organized in 1896 as a mill based fire brigade with paid members protecting the property and surrounding area of the Broad Brook Company Woolen Mill, the desire for a volunteer fire department serving the growing community emerged around 1933. The department then operated with two companies (Company 1 with paid brigade members and Company 2 with volunteers) with Company 1 later disbanding as the mill was phased out and the department becoming incorporated as a volunteer fire company . Present day, the department covers 3/4 of the Town of East Windsor protecting sixteen square miles including
the Boroughs of Windsorville, Melrose, Skaneck and Bound Brook. Fifty volunteers supplemented by four part time daytime staff working staggered shifts provide Fire, Rescue and EMS First Response protection answering 800 alarms annually.Headquarters
Sometime between 1946 to 1956, the woolen mill ceased operations with the property acquired by Hamilton Standard (a producer of aircraft parts) which provided a new firehouse to the department for a lease of $1 per year. In 1978, ground was broken for the current firehouse on the site of the former town hall that was razed by a fire in 1961 with the building dedication
completed by the summer of 1980. Present day, the Broad Brook FD occupies the first floor housing their
entire apparatus fleet while the second floor serves as the senior center for the Town of East Windsor.Engine Tanker 139 - 2002 HME/Central States 1500 gpm/2000 gal.
