Having replaced a 1992 Mack MR/E-One walk-in heavy rescue (reassigned as Technical Rescue 49-5 shown below), this rig features an extended cab seating eight (seven with SCBA), automatic tire chains, a rear view back-up safety camera and an event recorder DVR system. The 24’ walk-around box features a 55 KW direct drive electric generator, 185 CFM PTO driven pneumatic tool compressor, a six bottle 6,000 PSI cascade system with booster pump, SpaceSaver® two cylinder fill station and a removable awning system over the operator's panel. A T-N-T® diesel hydraulic power plant with remote start (supplying four tools) as well as a 220 volt electric simo pump provides power through six 100' hydraulic tool reels (including two on the front bumper) for pre-connected T-N-T® extrication tools. Remote power and air is supplied through four 200’ electric cord reels, a 200' utility air reel and 200’ high pressure breathing air reel from the cascade system as well as a 150' reel of 1" air line from the PTO compressor. Scene illumination is provided by twin 4,500 watt light towers (each with six 900 watt HIR floodlights), eight fixed mount 900 watt floodlights and 12 volt LED approach scene lights on the cab front/sides.
A 15,000 lb. front mount Warn® winch as well as a 9,000 lb. portable Warn® winch with aramid rope and six attachment points provides “pulling power” while a total of fourteen rigging points (front/rear/roof mount) are provided in addition to the portable winch mount receiver points. A removable davit system provides access to equipment stored in rooftop compartments. Communications are handled through a FireCom® wireless intercom system with dual radio interface, portable radios for all riding positions and a cross band radio repeater system for fireground operations.

Formerly assigned as the first due heavy rescue, it was reassigned as Technical Rescue 49-5 with the arrival of Heavy Rescue 49-5 in 2010. It features a 35kw PTO generator, 20kw of fixed and portable lighting, an on-board compressor with two 200′ air reels, a 9,000 pound front mounted winch and an A-frame assembly rated at 4,000 pounds. Its' extensive equipment complement includes a dual tool gasoline power plant supplying two pre-connected T-N-T extrication tools
on 100′ reels (28″ spreader, cutter and four assorted size rams) , two pre-connected bumper mounted reciprocating saws, a Paratech® Maxiforce 10 piece air bag system rated to 327.5 tons, Paratech® rescue struts, rope rescue gear, chain/rotary saws,
four Scott 45 minute SCBA, 56’ of ground ladders, assorted extinguishers and a Bullard thermal imager. Assigned for storm response including high water water evacuation, it is outfitted with water rescue PPE (ice rescue, dry and Mustang® exposure suits, PFD's and helmets), throw bags, a rapid deployment Avon® inflatable raft and other water rescue equipment.

Assigned for utility purposes and towing support trailers, Utility 49-5 is outfitted with an 8′ Western Plow, tool boxes and BLS level EMS equipment including a defibrillator. Outfitted with a winch, MSU 49-5 is utilized for special events stand-bys.
Accordingly, it is equipped with BLS medical bags, a SKED™ Stretcher and LSP immobilization device as well as backboards and a Reeves® board.
