Stanford Heights Fire District
Read MoreOrganized in 1920, Stanford Heights FD based on their unique geographic location operates serving the Town of Colonie in Albany County (as one of twelve fire districts) as well as the Town of Niskayuna in neighboring Schenectady County. Operating from two stations, this all volunteer department answers an average of 600 alarms annually providing Fire, Rescue and EMS First Response protection.
Station 1
Upon the formation of a tax based fire district twenty years after its' organization, Stanford Heights constructed two stations in 1955 which have been modified over the years to accommodate larger modern apparatus. The district is presently working to secure approval to replace this aging station with a new state-of-the-art firehouse.
Engine 431 - 2006 Pierce Enforcer 1750 gpm/750 gal.
Having replaced a Pierce Arrow canopy cab pumper, it features a Compressed Air Foam System as well as Husky® foam system with Class A and B foam cells. It is equipped with a full set of Hurst® extrication tools. Photographed in 2018, It has since been repainted Red/White to match the newer apparatus in the fleet and received an LED warning lights upgrade.
Rescue 10 (Retired) - 2000 Pierce Dash 1750 gpm/500 gal.
Having formerly operated as a rescue engine (a common practice in Albany County), this rig responded first due to motor vehicle accidents, Haz-Mat incidents and as a Firefighter Assist & Search Team (FAST). It featured a Husky® foam system with two 30 gallon foam cells (Class A and B), a 15kw hydraulic generator, 15' light tower, air compressor and a 12,000 pound front mounted winch. It was replaced with a 2020 Pierce Velocity 1500/500 rescue engine (painted Red/White) complete with a hydraulic generator, light tower, impressive American Flag chevron graphics and train horns complete with a custom pull handle (made by a dept. member) labeled "Pull In Case of Fire"! The current rig is equipped with both Hurst® e-Draulic battery powered and hydraulic extrication tools.
Truck 10 - 2010 Pierce Arrow XT 75'/1750 gpm/500 gal.
Also a former demonstrator, Truck 10 replaced a 1993 Pierce Lance 65' Tele-Squrt painted in Stanford Heights' standard White-over-Lime Yellow color scheme. It is assigned first due to all fire calls within its' own district as well as being the primary mutual aid piece responding to the City of Schenectady and the Town of Rotterdam in neighboring Schenectady County.
Squad 10 - 2006 Ford F-550/McCoy-Miller
Assigned for EMS first response, fire police and service calls, Squad 10 is outfitted with BLS medical gear, traffic control and salvage equipment.
