Frankfort Center Vol. Fire Department
Read MoreOrganized in 1937, the Frankfort Center FD serves a 28 square mile rural residential area encompassing the western side of the Town of Frankfort. Forty four active volunteers respond to an average of 150 alarms providing Fire, Extrication and EMS first response protection operating a unique fleet of used apparatus serving their second and third careers.
Engine 1 (Retired) - 1981 American LaFrance 1000 gpm/1250 gal.
This rig was one of three American LaFrance Century series engines formerly operated by Frankfort Center. Entering service in 1999, it was refurbished with the replacement of the cab along with the 500 gallon “T” booster tank being replaced with a 1,250 gallon tank to meet their rural water supply needs. Engines 1 and 2 originally served the FDNY (Engines 88 and 261respectively) while Engine 3 was a 1974 American LaFrance/Hahn 1000 gpm/1250 gallon engine from Baldwinsville, New York. Both Engine 1 and 2 were replaced in 2011 and 2012 respectively with 1995 and 2005 Sutphen engines (ex-Harriman, New York and Pontiac, Michigan). In addition, the dept. placed in service a 1980 Sutphen 100’ quint (ex-FDNY) effectively changing the majority of the front line fleet to Sutphen.
Truck 1 - 1981 Emergency One/1999 American LaFrance/Northern Fire Equipment 4x4 - 55'/1500 gpm/750 gal.
Originally delivered to the City of Syracuse, New York FD as a Hendrickson 1871/Emergency One, this rig was rehabbed in 1999 with a spare American LaFrance cab Northern Fire Equipment had on hand. Equipped with four wheel drive (a rarity on an aerial device), this rig was designed to operate during harsh Central New York winters making it suitable for Frankfort Center's rural setting.

Frankfort Center FD (New York) - Truck 2 (Retired) - 1974 Mack/1980 American LaFrance/1997 Northern Fire Equipment 75'
This rig was by far one of the most unyque rigs I have ever photographed. Originally assigned as FDNY Ladder 33, it then served the Undine Fire Co. of Bellafonte, Pennsylvania after which it was acquired by Frankfort Center. Due to severe rust, the cab was replaced with a 1980 American LaFrance Century Series cab (ex-Philadelphia FD) the vendor had on hand. While this unusual pairing might give Mack purists a stroke, it created a unique, functional apparatus that served Frankfort Center for 15 years. It was replaced in 2012 with a 1980 Sutphen 100’/1250/300 quint that formerly served as FDNY Ladder 119, then the Rolla FD in Missouri and briefly at the Alcan Aluminum Company plant in Oswego, New York. The final disposition of Truck 2 is not known - there was a rumor that a department in Northern New York was looking to purchase it to use for parts for their existing Aerialscope.

Rescue 127 - 2001 Ford F-550/Northern Fire Equipment 500 gpm/500 gal.
Having replaced a GMC/Sanford mini attack with front mount pump, Rescue 127 was custom built by the local vendor that completed all of Frankfort Center's unyque rehabs. It features an integrated foam system and is equipped with Holmatro® extrication tools.
