Ladder 683 - 2018 Rosenbauer Viper 109'
Entering service in 2019, this rig replaced a 1994 Pierce Lance 75' rear mount aerial which featured the first aerial Pierce built in-house (they had previously utilized Smeal for their aerials). The former rig now serves with the Bomberos de Puente Alto in Chile where it is painted Lime Green with Blue reflective trim. Ladder 683 is assigned to respond as a mutual aid Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST) to neighboring Massapequa, North Massapequa and Wantagh.
The former Ladder 683 detailed above served in a very special assignment as “Acting FDNY Ladder 4” during the funerals of those members lost on 9/11 and as such was decorated to reflect its’ acting assignment. It was outfitted with a memorial plaque dedicated to the memory of FDNY Lt. Keith P. Kern (the father of a Seaford FD assistant chief) who was lost suddenly in 2006 - as the senior man in the Engine 54/Ladder 4/Battalion 9 firehouse which lost twelve members on 9/11, he greatly assisted all the families of those lost. Upon the retirement of this apparatus, the plaque was removed and mounted on the exterior of the truck bay.Rescue 687 - 2004 Pierce Dash 250 gpm/250 gal./20 gal. foam
One of the very few “wet” rescues on Long Island, this rig was designed to provide maximum efficiency with limited manpower - as such, it was utilized as the blueprint for the heavy rescue operated by the career City of Bridgeport FD in Connecticut. Only the second heavy rescue to serve the department, it replaced a classic 1983 American LaFrance Century Series quad which was converted by Saulsbury in 1994 into a heavy rescue complete with a new walk-around body equipped with roll-up doors. Seating eight (five with SCBA), the current rescue features a winch, light tower and command post.
