Serving the Town of Wallkill, the Mechanicstown FD protects a 14.7 square mile response area encompassing Interstate 84, Route 17 and the Galleria Mall. Twenty active volunteers provide Fire and Technical Rescue protection answering an average of 800-900 alarms annually.
Engine 122 (“Double Deuce”) - 2005 KME 2000 gpm/2000 gal./150 gal. foam
Responding first due, this rig features an enclosed pump panel in the crew cab, a light tower and cascade system. It is equipped with Hurst® extrication tools.
Engine 118 ("Terminator II" - Retired) - 1990 KME 2000 gpm/1500 gal./50 gal. foam
Replaced with a 2016 Seagrave Marauder II 2000/750/40F engine, this rig now serves the Gasburg Volunteer Fire Department in Brunswick County, Virginia.
Squad 123 (“In Squad We Trust”) - 2003 Ford F-550/KME 300 gal.
Formerly equipped with both Hurst® extrication tools and wildland equipment, Squad 123 has since been reassigned strictly for wildland firefighting response.
Truck 121 (“21 Truck”) - 2002 KME 100’/2000 gpm/500 gal.
This rig is slated to be replaced with a 2022 Seagrave 95' Aerialscope.
Rescue 119 ("The Extricator" - Retired) - 1994 Spartan/Saulsbury
Known as "The Extricator", this rig was replaced with a 2019 Spartan/Rescue 1 two door tandem axle walk-in style heavy rescue. Seating six, this rig featured a three door cab with integrated command center with an assortment of radios.
Rescue 117 (“Taz’s Toolbox”) - 2010 Kenworth/Morgan
Equipped for collapse and trench rescue, this rig features a custom work area complete with an on-board cutting station, refrigerator and microwave. In addition, it carries a large assortment of shoring, trench panels and rescue struts.
Fire Police M-116 ("The Maltese Militia") - 1997 Dodge
Mechanicstown FD operates a very active Fire Police unit which consists of members who are duly sworn New York State Peace Officers charged with handling both traffic and crowd control at emergency scenes. Due to having several high speed roadways as well as a large shopping mall in their response area, the department operates two fire police support vehicles including a truly custom unit (shown below) designed for maximum efficiency and operator safety.
Fire Police M-124 - ("Beaufort "Taz" Justice") - 2007 GMC TopKick/KME
The “mother of all fire police vehicles”, this truly custom unit was designed to meet the specific traffic control needs of Mechanicstown’s response area with maximum operator safety in mind. The crew cab provides seating for five members with a recessed area on both sides of the body allowing members to safely deploy/retrieve traffic cones. A total of three video cameras (one rear and each side of the body viewing the cone deployment area) are visible through an LCD monitor in the cab while “open mic” headsets allow communication between crew members (in the event a driver penetrates their safety zone, members can instantly alert the crew as well as the incident commander without the need to “key up” their radio). Other notable features of this rig include a 7,500 watt PTO generator (which sounds like a jet engine when it revs up!), cord reel with junction box, a 3,000 watt light tower, folding electronic arrow board and a small refrigerator. Its' equipment complement includes high visibility protective clothing (individually issued to members), ten fold-up barriers, five collapsible traffic control signs and assorted extinguishers.
