Read MoreOperating as Station 23 in Rensselaer County, the North Hoosick FD provides Fire and Rescue protection to a rural residential community. As a small rural fire district, the department has proactively utilized federal grant funding to ensure the proper equipment for their operational needs. Through successful grant awards, they were able to replace their SCBA (2007), turn-out gear (2008), all hose/nozzles/adapters (with a standardized fleet-wide hose load using 2" attack/5" LDH supply lines) in 2009 and again in 2016 for additional SCBA.
Engine Tanker 23-6 - 2001 International/Boise Mobile Equipment 1250 gpm/1500 gal.
Responding first due for all alarms, it is equipped with 2" attack/ 5" supply lines (North Hoosick's standardized hose complement), Class A foam, a thermal imager and Hurst® extrication tools.

North Hoosick FD (New York), Engine Tanker 23-5 - 2011 International Workstar/Toyne 1250 gpm/1000 gal.
One of two rigs operated by North Hoosick featuring LDH reels, it was designed to maximize water supply capabilities. It is outfitted with two 2" pre-connects, 2,000' of 5" LDH supply line (reel has capacity for 3,000 feet) and a portable pump. According to what North Hoosick was told by the manufacturer, this was the first rig of its' type ever built by Toyne (a surprising fact considering many of their customers are
rural FD's that need to move "big water" on the fireground).Engine 23-2 - 1988 International/Ranger 1000 gpm/500 gal.
Featuring a short wheelbase coupled with a front mount pump, this rig was designed to access narrow rural roads while supporting water supply operations. Outfitted with a rear mounted LDH reel, it features a large diamond plate platform (which folds compactly into the apparatus when stored) for ease of reloading.
Rescue 23 (Retired) - 2005 GMC/VRS Sales
Constructed by a New York based apparatus dealer known for creating unyque apparatus, this walk-around style rescue was equipped with Hurst® extrication tools, air bags and a four bottle cascade system. It was replaced in 2022 with a 4 door International HV507/Toyne 1500/1000/25F rescue engine complete with a mural of their antique apparatus in honor of the department's 75th anniversary.
Brush 23 - 2007 Ford F-350/Kimtek HP pump/200 gal./5 gal. foam
Acquired in 2015 as part of a package deal, this rig features a snowplow, Tonno® cover (for bed protection during harsh New York winter weather) and a tailgate lift. It was then fitted with a skid unit with a capacity of 200 gallons of water and 5 gallons of Class A foam. The pick-up formerly used as Brush 23 was then re-assigned to the second assistant chief.
Command 2301 (Car 1) - 2010 Ford Escape
One of two cross-over style SUV's acquired in 2015 as part of a package deal (which included Brush 23), these were formerly used by a Pennsylvania municipality for their parking enforcement agents. As the vehicles only transported a driver, the original plastic protecting the rear seats was still in place when acquired by North Hoosick!
