Bohemia FD
Read MoreOrganized in 1893 as the Bohemia Hook & Ladder Co# 1, a name change in 1921 created the present day Bohemia Fire Department. Operating from two stations, 84 volunteers answer an average of 1,500 alarms providing Fire, Rescue and EMS First Response protection to a mixed residential, commercial and industrial community including busy Veterans Memorial and Sunrise Highways as well as 2,000 acres of the Connetquot State Park.

Antique Engine 3-12-6A - 1974 Mack CF-600/1984 Pierce 1500 gpm/ 750 gal.
Originally starting life as a canopy cab, this rig after 10 years of active service experienced significant rust and was sent to Pierce for a major refurbishment. This included a new body with high side compartments, half doors at the jumpseat area, new booster tank and an upgrade to the pump (for the department's transition to 5" large diameter hose). This rig's 1975 twin received a similar refurb shortly thereafter. The 1974 Mack continued in active frontline service until 2007, after being retired the members opted to return the rig to as close to its' original condition (including removal of the half doors at the jumpseat area) for use as an antique. An interesting fact is that this was the first time the department had dealt with Pierce - since that time, their entire fleet has remained exclusively Pierce.
Tower 3-12-3 - 2015 Pierce Velocity 95'
This mid-mount ladder tower replaced a 1993 Pierce Lance which featured an articulated 112' Bronto SkyLift (one of only four operated among Long Island's 181 FD's, all of which have been replaced). Present day, Tower 3-12-3 is assigned third due to structure fires.
Rescue 3-12-8 - 2008 Pierce Velocity
This rig was the first apparatus to feature the Dark Red/Black paint scheme that now adorns the majority of the fleet - when the department considered a color switch from Red/White to the emerging trend of an upper Black cab, they opted for Dark Red to offset the look. Assigned first due to motor vehicle accidents and second due to CO alarms, it features a light tower, on-board power/air and an absorbent hopper. It is outfitted with both Hurst® hydraulic and battery powered extrication tools, air bags, Res-Q-Jacks® and multi-gas meters.
Rescue 3-12-10 - 2011 Ford F-450 4x4/Firematic B.R.A.T.
This multi-purpose rescue provides BLS level EMS First Response prior to the arrival of Community Ambulance Co. which serves Bohemia and four other communities. In addition to BLS medical gear and patient transport devices, it is equipped with four SCBA, an older Hurst® spreader with portable pump, cribbing wedges, forcible entry tools, a Little Giant folding ladder, tri-pod and Stokes basket.
