Having operated a stumpjumper for many years, WHBFD has a personal connection to the development of stumpjumpers on Long Island. One of their senior members (and later his son) was an innovator in the design, development and building of stumpjumpers in the early 1970's when the need for a heavy duty wildland firefighting apparatus was recognized.
