Read MoreOrganized in 1928, the West Hamilton Beach Fire Department protects a 1.8 mile square area encompassing the West Hamilton Beach, Rockwood and Howard Beach neighborhoods in the Borough of Queens. As one of the nine remaining volunteer fire departments operating within the confines of New York City, WHBFD is the only department that operates on a parkway covering a stretch of the Belt Parkway from Cross Bay Boulevard extending to the Pennsylvania Avenue exit in the Spring Creek section in the neighboring Borough of Brooklyn. Twenty two active volunteers provide Fire, Rescue and BLS level EMS protection answering an average of 850 alarms annually.

This BLS equipped rig operates as "94-Charlie" in the FDNY*EMS Mutual Aid Radio System (the radio system serving the volunteer ambulances operating within New York City). Advanced Life Support level care is provided by career FDNY*EMS paramedics from Station 47 in nearby Rockaway.
