Organized in 1955, the department provides Fire, Rescue & EMS First Response protection to an 18 square mile unincorporated area of Southern Iredell County including 5 miles of Interstate 77 and 31.5 shoreline miles of Lake Norman. In 2000, Mount Mourne became the first VFD in Iredell County to staff with part time firefighters to supplement their volunteers which has increased to 24/7 staffing with four firefighters.

The present day firehouse was built on 11 acres of pre-Revolutionary War property
dating to 1764 and was occupied in 2004.

This rig received a graphics upgrade in the Summer of 2022 featuring the folding tank brackets wrapped in Red vinyl with Gold leaf striping.

Originally serving the FDNY as Ladder 17 in the Mott Haven section of the Borough of the Bronx, this rig received a full off-frame refurbishment by Seagrave Carolina in 2020. It replaced a 1990 canopy cab Mack CF/Baker Aerialscope
tower ladder.
