Organized in 1934, Moon Township’s sixty volunteers provide Fire and Rescue protection to a large residential and commercial district encompassing over 100 miles. Answering 350 alarms annually, the department operates from four stations with an apparatus fleet painted in their unique White-over-Blue color scheme.
Allegheny County Station 197
Named in honor of past chief/fire marshal Charles Belgie Jr, this station serves as Moon Township’s headquarters responding with two engines and a ladder tower.
Engine 2 - 2008 American LaFrance 1500 gpm/1000 gal.
Entering service in 2009, this rig was assigned to the Boggs Run station responding first due. It was the first brand new fire apparatus in 43 years to serve the Bon Meade area.
Engine 4 (Retired) - 1991 Boardman 55’/1000 gpm/300 gal.
Replaced in 2016 with a Spartan ERV 75' rear mount aerial quint, this rig was donated to the Franklin Borough Fire Co. in Pennsylvania. Having replaced Franklin's 1977 Mack CF-600 55' Tele-Squrt, it presently runs as Truck 5 while retaining its' original color scheme from Moon Township.
Truck 4 - 1991 Grumman Aerialcat 102'/1500 gpm/500 gal.
Purchased used, this rig was originally painted red. After some heated debate over the fact that “Fire Trucks are supposed to be Blue”, the department (at considerable expense) had the entire rig sandblasted and repainted in their unique color scheme.
Assigned as the duty officer vehicle, it is signed out by an assistant chief or line officer who responds to all alarms thereby freeing up the fire chief to handle the many administrative duties associated with the department’s operations.
