At first glance, this impressive rig appears to be simply a tandem axle heavy rescue - in actuality, it is a fully equipped rescue pumper. Measuring 42' long with a gross weight of 60,000 pounds, it replaced a 1994 Pierce Lance rescue pumper which was one of the very first rescue engines operated in Bucks County (which responded to over 3,300 alarms during its' 15 years of service). The current Rescue 8 operates within a 40 mile mutual aid response area (including six miles first due on Interstate 95) for all disciplines of technical rescue (with the exception of dive operations).
Seating six (five with SCBA), it is outfitted with a 30kw hydraulic generator, NightScan® light tower, four bottle cascade system, front mounted 20,000 lb. hydraulic winch, a 9,000 lb. portable winch with four receiver points and roof mounted anchor high points. In addition, it features a pre-piped deck gun, 300' air line, electric powered awning and a small refrigerator for rehab.
Equipped for all disciplines of technical rescue, it is outfitted with six pre-connected Hurst® extrication tools (spreader/cutter on front bumper and both sides), airbags, Junk Yard Dog® struts, Paratech® air shores, 15 ton railroad jacks and large shoring timbers (8' and 16' long). It also carries rope/confined space rescue gear (including an air cart) and haz-mat mitigation.
Set-up as a Class A engine, it is equipped with two front bumper pre-connects (150' 1-3/4" and 200' 2"), a 400' 2" rear pre-connect (with smoothbore nozzle), 400' of 3" with a gated wye, 600' of
3-1/2" packed in a "dead load" and 1,000' of 5" LDH supply line. In addition, it carries 99' of ground ladders (including a 35' extension), positive/negative pressure fans and assorted Stihl® saws.
