West Hempfield Fire & Rescue Co. was established January 1st of 2000 with the consolidation of the former Ironville and Silver Spring Fire Companies. Serving West Hempfield Township, 20 active volunteers provide Fire and Rescue protection answering 650 alarms annually. Their unyque color scheme was developed as "something a little different" to clearly define them from the previous Yellow and Red rigs of their predecessors.
Lancaster County Station 76
West Hempfield Fire & Rescue operates their full fleet of an engine, tanker, TAC unit, heavy rescue and fire police from this five bay double deep firehouse.
Engine 76-2 - 1999 Seagrave 1500 gpm/1000 gal.
Seating six (five with SCBA), it is outfitted with four 200' pre-connects (three 1-3/4 , one 2-1/2"). The rear hose load includes 400' of 1-3/4", 200' of 1-3/4" plumbed for foam, 300' of 3" pre-connected to a Blitzfire® portable monitor
and 2,000' of 5" LDH supply line.
Tanker 76 - 2015 Kenworth/4 Guys 1500 gpm/3000 gal.
Featuring side and rear dump chutes, it is outfitted with a 200' booster reel. In addition, it is equipped with two SCBA and two 200' 1-3/4" pre-connects.
TAC 76 - 2019 Ford F550XL/Vengeant 300 gpm/300 gal.
Featuring a rear mount pump, it is equipped with four SCBA and a battery powered combi-tool. This rig is only the second Vengeant brand apparatus (a personal favorite of mine) that I have photographed to date with the other being
the Bel Alton VFD in Charles County, Maryland (see profile @ https://www.unyquefiretrucks.com/Maryland/Charles-County/Bel-Alton-VFD/).
Rescue 76 - 2008 Spartan Gladiator Evolution/Super Vac Industries 500 gpm/500 gal.
Seating seven (six with SCBA), this "wet rescue" is outfitted with three 200' pre-connects (two 1-3/4", one 200' 2-1/2") along with an additional SCBA for the driver. It is equipped with Hurst® hydraulic (pre-connected) and battery powered extrication tools, air bags, struts as well as gear for water, rope and confined space rescue operations.
